building a custom trailer -

The FIVE Biggest Mistakes You Can Make When Buying A Trailer

Check out our friendly advice on how to find the right people to build your custom trailer.

1. NOT choosing a qualified vehicle body builder.

There are plenty of 'backyard Bob's' out there who can use a welder and will tell you that they know what they are doing when it comes to building a trailer. Did you know that being a Vehicle Body Builder is a certified trade that takes 4 years to complete? At Fineline Fabrications we take pride in our trade and are fully qualified vehicle body builders who have been in the Industry for 17 years. There are loads of things to consider when designing and constructing a customised trailer - it's just like any other trade - you wouldn't expect a plumber to know how to wire lights in your house and Vehicle Body Building is no different. If you're not sure, ask to see their qualifications. Fineline Fabrications will proudly show you ours!

2. NOT choosing a manufacturer who follows the National Code Of Practice.

There are National Codes of Practice in place for a reason - to ensure that vehicles on the road are produced to a certain standard and a trailer is no different. Fineline Fabrications follow the National Code of Practice - Building Small Trailers which is produced by the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure and covers Australian Design Rules (ADR's) and vehicle standards for manufacturing and supplying trailers, horse floats and caravans. Ask us to show you - we'd be happy to! As a licensed Motor Dealer we also follow the vehicle registration standards in the Motor Vehicle Standards Act.

3. NOT taking advice from the Experts.

Fineline Fabrications have been building all kinds of trailers for a long, long time. We've built trailers for motorbikes, pushbikes, model air craft, speed cars, sprint cars, coffee shops, plumbing equipment, kayaks, segways, go karts, race cars, camping, music equipment...the list goes on! Use our experience to provide you with the advice and options to build a trailer that is exactly what you want. Simply tell us what you need, and we will tell you how we can build it.

4. NOT choosing a manufacturer who delivers what they promise.

At Fineline Fabrications we will be honest with you about what is and isn't practical. If it won't work, we won't build it. We will also be honest with you about how long it's going to take and how much it's going to cost. Our quotes are all inclusive - no surprises at the end and we won't promise you that you will have your trailer in 2 weeks if it's going to take 12 weeks. It might take some time...but it will be worth it!

5. NOT asking the right questions.

Lastly, the best advice we can give you when choosing a trailer manufacturer is ask the right questions! Hopefully this fact sheet helps you to do that. Are they qualified? Are they insured? Are they a registered business? Are their construction methods compliant and strong? Do they follow the manufacturing guidelines? Do they provide good customer service? Will they deliver on time? Will they deliver on budget?

You may be wondering why we would we tell you all of this??? Because we are confident that once you have asked these questions to everyone else, you will come back to us. We really are the experts and can deliver you a superior product with exceptional customer service.
